Professor Sully has lectured at conferences and universities in Sweden, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Germany, France, Switzerland, Poland, the Balkans, the Black Sea region as well as the USA, Australia. In the UK she took courses at Birkbeck University of London in parliamentary studies as well at the University of Bangor in Wales. and before moving to Austria Dr Sully taught European Studies at the University in Mikkeli, Finland.
Her main topics cover Austrian, British and European politics with a focus on political parties, elections, parliaments, public consultation, lawmaking, political participation, female representation in parliaments and codes of conduct. Melanie has worked with the OSCE on democratic governance in the West Balkans and Caucasus. In addition Melanie was an election observer for the OSCE on presidential and parliamentary elections in the Republics of Moldova and Belarus. She is a Senior Legal Expert for the Warsaw based ODIHR on democratic lawmaking issues.

She is a regular guest speaker for the Europa Forum, Neumarkt in Styria and for the student programme of the Diplomatic Academy, Vienna.
